The Center for Vertical Mobility researches and develops vertical, runway-independent air mobility. Its focus is on trials and tests in real-world laboratories – particularly of person-carrying and unmanned aerial vehicles, from medical drones to air taxis, that are capable of vertical takeoff and landing and feature a high degree of automation.

The Center for Vertical Mobility (CVM) aims to create a unique competence and testing center for vertical mobility in the Rhenish mining region, dedicated to this topic. Vertical mobility will focus on person-carrying and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), ranging from medical drones to air taxis, that are capable of vertical takeoff and landing and feature a high degree of automation. Against this backdrop, the CVM is planned to be located in close proximity to the existing Aldenhoven Testing Center for automotive applications. This will enable joint, cross-modal research into "networked automated mobility" and its integration into a comprehensive, exemplary concept.
