The Materials Lab IncubatorThe Materials Lab Incubator supports early-stage startup teams in the field of advanced materials in developing innovative, high-value products. It combines materials science with modern biotechnological processes and scalable and biocompatible production technologies – with the goal of establishing itself as a leading deep-tech incubator for materials in Europe. The incubator is receiving a total of 11 million euros in funding as part of the Bioeconomy Model Region in the Rhineland region. The goal is to create sustainable jobs in the field of advanced materials and recyclables, thus contributing to an economically, ecologically, and socially sustainable bioeconomy – as part of a biotransformed, climate-neutral circular economy. Thematically, the Materials Lab Incubator is linked to its sister project, the Bio4MatPro competence center, and builds on the structures of the RWTH Excellence Start-up Center (ESC) to attract excellent startup teams. These are supported at an early stage by VC investors who are actively involved in the project selection process in order to specifically support and accelerate the development of innovative and high-quality products.
